Zomato New Name: New name for Zomato

In a strategic move to reflect its diversified business model, Zomato, the renowned Indian food and grocery delivery platform, has officially rebranded itself as “Eternal” and introduced a new logo. This rebranding signifies the company’s expansion beyond its traditional food delivery services to include quick-commerce, live events, and kitchen supplies.

The Evolution of Zomato

Established in 2008 by Deepinder Goyal and Pankaj Chaddah, Zomato began as a restaurant aggregator and food delivery service. Over the years, it has evolved into a multinational entity, offering information, menus, and user reviews of restaurants, as well as food delivery options across more than 1,000 Indian cities and towns.

Transition to Eternal

The rebranding to Eternal encompasses four major business verticals:

1. Zomato: The original food delivery service.

2. Blinkit: A quick-commerce unit specializing in rapid grocery deliveries.

3. District: A live events business.

4. Hyperpure: A kitchen supplies unit catering to restaurants.

Founder Deepinder Goyal highlighted that the success of Blinkit has been a significant driver for this rebranding, leading to increased investor interest in quick commerce.

Strategic Implications

This rebranding marks a pivotal shift in the company’s strategy. The acquisition of Blinkit in mid-2022, despite initial investor skepticism, has proven to be a catalyst for growth. The rise of quick-commerce platforms like Blinkit and Swiggy’s Instamart has transformed shopping habits in India, prompting competitors such as Reliance Industries’ JioMart, Amazon, and Walmart’s Indian business to develop their own quick-commerce offerings.

Internal Reorganization

In August 2022, Deepinder Goyal announced a new structure for the company, introducing “Eternal” as an umbrella organization overseeing multiple businesses, each led by its own CEO. This structure includes Zomato, Blinkit, Hyperpure, and Feeding India, a non-profit initiative. Goyal clarified that Eternal was initially an internal identity, serving as a mission statement to unify the company’s diverse ventures under a common vision.

Looking Ahead

The rebranding to Eternal signifies the company’s commitment to long-term growth and diversification. By integrating various services under one umbrella, Eternal aims to create a seamless ecosystem that caters to a wide range of consumer needs, from food delivery to live events and kitchen supplies.
